Grow Guatemala – Past Project 2015-16 and 2016-17
Our Rotaract Club worked with a non-profit organization, Adopt-A-Village Guatemala (AAV), a branch of the Child Nutrition Project of the Grant’s Pass Rotary Club based in Oregon, USA. The goal was to support these organizations by raising funds to purchase much needed items for AAV’s Sustainable Agriculture Program to help eradicate malnutrition of rural Guatemalan villages.
Our club fundraised for the following:
Water tanks for local agriculture
Medication and hygiene products
Education Sponsorship of a community member
Medical fees for a community member
In Guatemala, the face of poverty and hunger is young, indigenous, and rural. Guatemala, with the fourth highest rate of chronic malnutrition in the world and the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean, faces a serious challenge to reduce chronic malnutrition, currently at 49.8% among children under 5. The Sustainable Agriculture Program is combating these issues in Guatemala with education and participation of villagers, and Grow Guatemala of Rotaract eClub of No Borders wants to be a part of that.
